Approach Icons

Approach icons appear on the lefthand side of Ranger cards. They also appear in tests printed on path cards, weather, missions, locations, and Ranger cards.

There are four approach icons:

•  Conflict
•  Reason
•  Exploration
•  Connection

During Step 2 of performing a test you may discard any number of cards from your hand with approach icons matching the icon shown in the test you are performing. Each matching approach icon on the discarded cards contributes 1 effort. There is no limit to the number of cards with matching approach icons you can discard to commit to a test.

When you discard a card for its approach icons, ignore all information on the card that doesn’t explicitly refer to committing that card to the test.

Thematically, approach icons on Ranger cards represent the way in which your Ranger typically approachs situations based on their personality and experience. When approach icons appear in tests, they combine with an aspect to form a descriptive narrative action.
